Walk Away will be short film number 5 and a modern twist on the musical genre, and not in the traditional all singing, all dancing sense. I’m going all out on this project and putting everything I have in to a film that will be made with major film festivals in mind – we might even be shooting it on 35mm!
Making a musical comes with all sorts of logistic and production issues, some of which I’m experiencing for the first time. At the top of my list of things to tackle head on is attracting World class talent to the project. That challenge starts with the music of Walk Away. This film can only be made if we have musicians, songwriters and composers working at the top of their game on the team.
That’s why I’m incredibly pleased to announce the first name attached to the music of Walk Away. Julian Kershaw is a composer, arranger, orchestrator and conductor. His filmography is amazing, having worked on some big Hollywood films including Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Stardust, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Hannibal Rising, Layer Cake, Notting Hill and more, including countless TV shows. Julian has also worked as an arranger for Sir Paul McCartney, Richard Ashcroft, Elvis Costello, Kasabian and many more. This really is big news for Walk Away and to say we’re excited is somewhat of an understatement.
Here’s an example of some of the music Julian has worked on, incredible work. Click play below and enjoy!
Julian will be working on the finishing touches to the music, adding the epic strings and orchestration for that sound and tone I’m after for the music on Walk Away. There will be a familiar and popular sound to the music on the film and I want strings and that classic blockbuster movie sound to be running through out.
The next step is to attract a top class songwriter/musician to help write the songs, working more towards an acoustic guitar sound. I have a big name in mind and will be contacting them in the next few days. I really do hope I can convince him to get involved with the film as I’ve admired his work for many years, his songwriting abilities are amazing, there’s a great organic feel to his music, just what we need on Walk Away – watch this space.
