Up until Friday last week the Crash screenplay had been locked. Ready to go into principal photography in April on the Isle of Man. That was UNTIL I had a moment whilst driving home after my radio show – an epiphany you might say…
I was just thinking about the locked screenplay as I drove home when I suddenly and completely out of nowhere had this idea that would completely change the story. It was a moment that made me think – crikey, I must re-write using this concept it is much better!!!!
If you’ve been following the blog recently you’ll know that Crash is supposed to be a trailer for a fake movie. However, this new idea changes things slightly. My original idea was to just shoot this trailer, as a great learning experience – a chance to get behind the camera. Never was there any intention on turning the trailer into an actual film.
This new idea sends me off in a completely different direction. The trailer will still be used primarily as an exercise for me to get behind the camera and direct. But will also serve as a starting point for what I’m hoping will be my first full feature length screenplay!!
I don’t want to say too much about the change in the Crash story right now, for obvious reasons.
It’s all quite exciting and just goes to show how quickly and sometimes suddenly ideas can change and develop – for the better.
I’m off to the Isle of Man on Friday to discuss the filming process with a good friend of mine (who is also a film maker). I’ve been working hard over the last few days to completely re-write the Crash screenplay to incorporate my new ideas. I finished it earlier today ready to take with me.
I’m filming a video blog of the trip and hope to upload it early next week.
